The hype is well-deserved.
I stumbled onto the band when I was subbing for the Turkish pop music show that used to be on before Phoning It In, determined to find and play Turkish indie rock, and was immediately hooked. Kim Ki O play post-punk-inflected synth-POP, with Ekin's sometimes eerie, sometimes playful keyboards intersecting perfectly with Berna's insistent bass. Their intertwining girl-girl vocals only sweeten the deal.
The sound quality's is a little rough on this one (but not too much!), owing to the transatlantic connection, but someone even called in during the show (off-air) to say, "It's muddy, but I love it anyway!" The static actually sounds like another instrument.

Ekin Sanac and Berna Gol phone it in from Istanbul, Turkey, where it's 2:30 in the morning. You know we're living in the Age of Ubiquitous Information when an obscure Turkish-language band (obscure by Western standards, anyway, and only by virtue of being Turkish) opens for Jens Lekman on his Euro tour and virtually overnight ends up all over the choicest music blogs on both sides of the Atlantic.
