Jerusha and Jeremy Robinson phone it in from Durango, CO on a break from touring the country.

"South China was born in 2002 as a marriage, musically and literally, of Jeremy and Jerusha Robinson. Their individual backgrounds in experimental rock and classical music produce a sound that feels sparse and improvised, evoking a slightly dark and dream-like state, like trying to recall something that is just beyond the edges of memory. They draw listeners into their intimate world of Maine winters, bittersweet moments, subtle humor, and bizarre dream imagery."

J & J are also two-thirds of Brown Bird and occasional members of Tiger Saw (I first heard 'em when they backed up Dylan for his Phoning It In sesh), not to mention members of Plains, White Light, and Tiny Fires. South China's songs are as complex as they sound simple, employing silence, space, and the notes unplayed as much as the notes you hear. At times lovely and others haunting, both melancholic and joyful, South China easily recall Ida or Mark Hollis's remarkable solo album. One of the best bands I heard last year!
