R. Keenan Lawler phones it in from Louisville, KY. For over a decade, he's been quietly evolving a highly personal and exploratory language on his trademark National Steel Resonator guitar that has been called "cosmic, monolithic, and deeply American", informed by Carnatic classical music, Charles Ives, Albert Ayler, blues, minimalism, and non-western trance musics. His releases have appeared on Mike Tamburo's New American Folk Hero label, the Music Fellowship, Table of the Elements, and Eclipse, and he's recorded or collaborated with My Morning Jacket, Matmos, Rhys Chatham, Kevin Drumm, Charalambides, Jack Rose and Pelt, and plenty of others. Why he isn't a household name is beyond us.
