Elusive anti-folker Thomas Patrick Maguire phones it in from Queens, NY. Wonderfully bummed out proletariat pop? Humble, hummable, rare, and fun, TPM's simple guitar phrasing and flat, richly accented voice easily slip under your skin. It's sly, really. The songs are hypnotic rather than monotonous, along the lines of Nirvana unplugged or early Beck, propelled by TPM's self-aware, tenuously optimistic lyrics, and the phone is the perfect medium for them.
