Three-quarters of the Wingdale Community Singers phone it in from Brooklyn, NY.

I hardly know where to begin, so I'll just lay out the facts. The citizens of Wingdale:

-Indie legend David Grubbs, of Gastr del Sol, Bastro, and Squirrel Bait;
-Renowned visual artist and solo musician Nina Katchadourian;
-Trailblazing songwriter Hannah Marcus, out sick for this recording, but who's collaborated with Mark Kozelek and members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and A Silver Mount Zion;
-And acclaimed writer Rick Moody, author of 'The Ice Storm' and other stories.

Damn. I could hold forth on how the Wingdale Community Singers avoid the usual disappointments of a supergroup, but I prefer to let the music speak for itself. I also kinda like Blind Faith, not to mention blind faith. I will say that they play modern short stories set to old-time music, winning them fans on both sides of the aisle. Harry Smith's romantic partner, Rosebud, fer instance, sez' 'Thumbs up!' They say of themselves:

"The Wingdale Community Singers play folk music that could have been written any time in the last sixty years. It's Old Time, it's High Modernist, it's experimental, it's resistant to interpretation, it's funny sometimes, it's full of dread other times. One aspect remains throughout: there's a lot of singing. And a lot of harmony."
