Scent is said to be the most evocative of the senses. I don't know how the Sundance Kids smell, but their songs lodge in your brain in the same way, little stories you'll have to be careful not to confuse with your own tender memories. Before you know it, you'll be humming along. Then singing these songs on the street, while you ride your bike, or while you make dinner. Or maybe that's just me. But I know you'll like it, too.

Shelby Turner, Derek Hain, Erin Birgy, and Erin Tanner phone it in from Olympia, WA. I'd never heard of the Kids until I saw them open here for the wonderful Shelby Sifers. It was a great night. The Sundance Kids, led by a different Shelby, play another hard-to-categorize kind of 'self-improvement' pop. Their MySpace page archly lists Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst as an influence, and while the similarity is there in Shelby's voice, the exuberant songs these charming youngsters play are wholly their own.
